Mashujaa Day Dinner At About Thyme

What happens when Mashujaa Day falls on a Tuesday and you recently acquired your Yummy card from Eatout?? Your guess is as good as mine!! You browse through their list of select restaurants with offers on Tuesday but you are not aiming for the 10% off, your eyes are on the 50% offer.

I came across About Thyme restaurant on Instagram recently, an intimate restaurant located at the corner of Eldama Ravine Rd and Peponi road. I was pretty excited to finally give them a trial for dinner when the restaurant popped up on the 50% Tuesday offer.

I didn’t make reservations purposefully just to have a feel of what the service is like for a walk in. Reservation or not, I am sold. We were immediately shown to a table of two and we were quite early so we got a perfect spot but next time I would definitely call in advance to book the lounge.

AMBIANCE

I took this photo off About Thyme’s Facebook page because I never got to take photos of their beautiful setup. Aren’t the colours inviting? If you are looking for an intimate dining in a leafy secluded area then they are your best bet. Very tranquil and I loved their little tables set out in the garden and also the in-door sitting area for those who are not willing to sit out and enjoy the moon.

Food

For our starter, we ordered the duck triangles (samosas if you are not familiar with the term) with Asian dipping sauce. The fillings varied from oriented duck and stir fried vegetables.

For the main course, my date choose to have the About Thyme Pepper Steak which is a barbecued beef fillet in a creamy black pepper and thyme sauce garnished with battered onion rings. When I asked him how he would describe his meal he said, “I swear it’s like sex…there is definitely a food orgasm in my mouth.’ I tasted the steak and I cosign….marinated to perfection, juicy, it was mouth-watering. For the first time I tasted onion rings that were actually edible not too doughy. His meal was served with mash potatoes which were just the right amount of creamy and salad.

I ordered the chicken pot pie which is cubes of chicken breast in a creamy tarragon sauce with leeks and peas topped with a puffy pastry lid. My chicken pot pie was served with vegetables and rosemary potato wedges. I didn’t fancy the veges but my chicken was scrumptious to say the list. Creamy, a large serving of the chicken cubes definitely worth every coin. I think I would order the pot pie again if i dinned at About Thyme for a second time.

Drinks

We were looking through the menu for an affordable wine and by affordable I mean no one was willing to spend more than 2500, till we spotted the house wine sold in litres.

We opted for the 1 litre half of white and half of red and the waiter informed us that it was fourth street which is not so bad a choice. Mashujaa Day Dinner At About Thyme

We may just have gone overboard with the wine because we really struggled to finish it even after we were done with dinner.

Price

The Duck Triangles were Sh900 (quite pricey for 5 tiny samosas if you ask me). The chicken pot pie was Sh1600 while the About Thyme Pepper Steak was Sh1750. The 1litre house wine was Sh2000. Our total for the night came to Sh6,250 minus the 50% off from my Yummy card on my food it came to Sh4, 125. Imagine a whole 2, 125.

OFFERS: They have a quick lunch meal deal between Tuesday and Friday 12-4pm where you get to enjoy their 1 course at Sh900, 2 courses at Sh1300 and 3 courses ar Sh1700. Now that’s a bargain I want to try out!

Till the next treat!
