I first heard about The Arbor in July last year. It’s quite unbelievable that it’s taken me approximately one year despite reading rave reviews and seeing numerous pictures convincing me that The Arbor is a gem I needed to visit. I was browsing the internet last Sunday looking for a perfect spot for lunch and settled on The Arbor and boy didn’t I love the place!!
The Arbor is located in the heart of Lavington on 904 James Gichuru Road. Is’ a cafe, garden centre and marketplace all in one. Let’s just say, I should have visited them sooner. After a quick browse on their Facebook page we realized they close at 5pm on Sunday and Tuesday and at 9pm Tuesday – Saturday so our 2pm was perfect timing
We were welcomed by the lush garden selling organic vegetables for just Sh200. This charming cafe is a good escape from all the madness that is the city centre. It’s a breath of fresh air. I love a good garden cafe and minimalist decor just draws me in, simple wooden tables, colourful bottle tops in the pathways nature inspired decor, red chairs. The Arbor is the perfect cozy atmosphere to unwind.

It’s not just about the food at The Arbor, you can indulge in some much needed retail therapy…..From beautifully hand crafted accessories to some outdoor furniture, bodycare products from D’vine, home decor and local clothing from ilkarashi. I really loved what Eden gardening and landscaping have done at The Arbor. You can get whatever tickles your fancy from a variety of spices, herbs, indoor and outdoor plants an array of pots and hanging baskets. They also have a new addition, the Studio by D’vine offering facials, massages and mani/pedis.
I don’t know why it took me so long to visit The Arbor but their food just won me over. I may just be a regular. Their herb potato wedges were legit some of the best I have had. For my main I ordered the sweet chilli snapper and veg fried rice. I really love their portions and the fact that their food tasted as good as it looked. My snapper was so good guys.
My date had The Arbor chicken burger grilled to perfection served with onions, tomatoes, lettuce and their signature cheesy dressing and a side of homemade potato chips.
For the drinks, I had the Sangria which was great while my date who was nursing a major hangover had the mint and pineapple juice. It was so good he ordered for a second one. I tasted, it was worth it.

Our service was very swift and the attention to detail was notable. Our food was out in like 20 mins considering how famished we were it was just perfect. The tables next to ours were served equally fast and you could just tell that The Arbor’s kitchen is very efficient.
Was it a worthwhile treat? Yes! The Arbor is very affordable. My snapper was Sh950, the chicken burger Sh850, the herb wedges were Sh300. The sangria was Sh500 and the two mint and pineapple juices Sh300 each. In case you are wondering about their menu, there are a variety of meals to choose from. Eggs Benedict from their breakfast menu, sandwiches, salads, gyros, Malaysian cuisine with their laksa noodles, pasta, burgers, bitings such as deep fried Asian wantons and the vegetarians haven’t been left out.
The Arbor has amazing discounts that they always list on their Facebook page.
