Am I the only one who hates cooking on Sunday evenings? Either I’m too tired from working all weekend or just lazy. If there’s no leftover then the probability is I will eat out or order in. The Black Friday offer from Tune Hotels, Utamu restaurant caught my eye last Friday. A 3 course meal at Sh700 for the first 20 people to call in and make a reservation. Just the perfect Sunday plan. So after having a conversation with self and friends whether the deal is really worth it, I decided to give them a try.
I read a couple of reviews saying they are affordable, the food is tasty and their portions are reasonable so positive. Despite visiting the Tune Roof top bar severally this was my first time at Utamu Restaurant.
Had this delicious latte as we waited for dinner from the Grab n Go coffee house, it was just how I like it.
Starter
I love soup. Especially the creamy butternut soup I always make at my house which is what my starter was. Favorite meal of the evening, considering how cold it was, this delightful bowl spoke to my soul, I kid you not. My date who cannot stand soup of any flavor ordered the watermelon and feta cheese salad.

Mains
There’s always a catch with these food offers and in this case, the Utamu Restaurant early bird menu doesn’t give you much to choose from. My date ordered the chicken skewers with caramelized onions side salad and french fries. The meal was polite, I loved the fries and the skewers were really tasty. I’m a pasta girl so I ordered their tagliatelle bolognese with Parmesan shavings. My meal was bland, could have been better seasoned, little to no salt.
Dessert
I enjoyed a scoop of some Vanilla Ice cream while my date had strawberry coulis (which is misspelt on their menu) on crepe.
The Verdict
Early bird menu is between 5:30pm-7:30 for limited items off their menu 3 in each course to be precise. A two course will set you back Sh1200 while a three course is Sh1400. The portions are good as seen in the photos. Since I paid Sh700 as it was a black Friday deal. I’m not complaining. Would I go back to Utamu Restaurant? Yes, but not for the limited menu. It would be great to try something off their regular menu because variety!
